Managing Anger with Tim Pike counselling in Brighton

Anger is a normal and healthy human emotion. It is important to deal with it in a positive way. Uncontrolled anger can take a toll on both health and relationships, self-worth and achievements.

Approaches to Anger Management

My main specialism is better management of anger. I’ve been successfully working alongside men on this issue for over twenty years.

There are several approaches I use. One is to simply vent and off load known anger but in a safe and confidential space.

Another would be locating any hidden past anger from perhaps seemingly non-angry but resentful situations which somehow got beneath the skin and have remained.

There may well be some other hidden feelings beneath the anger that either the anger itself is sort of needed to mask, to protect us from feeling the emotional pain, or the hidden feelings were actually fueling the anger and causing the anger. Looking for and locating these hidden painful vulnerable feelings can make potentially huge differences and big changes within.

A separate approach would be using cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I can help create skills, strategies and tactics tailored to you to better manage unwanted intense emotions.

For example, how to learn to recognise the earliest signs you are about to become angry so you have more time, valuable seconds maybe, to chose and prepare how to respond to the imminent rage and potential temper, so to swerve an eruption or harm to a relationship.

Approaches to Anger Management

Sessions Based On Trust

Through our frank and honest discussion, based on trust, we can together work out the situations, the earlier vulnerable feelings, as well as the initial physical sensations, that will give you seconds, or fractions of a second, to choose from safer options other than acting the anger out in destructive and regrettable ways.

Ten sessions may be sufficient for you to feel in control enough of your feelings and, therefore, your actions and behaviour, to feel a new self confidence and new ability to manage yourself in awkward and difficult situations.
